When the time comes to either upgrade or buy a new computer, the sheer number of choices available to you can be pretty overwhelming. After all, there are so many different things to choose from that it can often feel impossible to know where to even start. However, often the best place to start is with the biggest and most obvious choice: Mac or PC. Over the years, things have shifted one way or the other with either Mac or PC being clearly superior. However, in the modern era, that’s a whole lot more subjective which means that you have more choice but it also means that making that choice can be a lot more difficult. However, there are certain things that you can consider in order to help figure out which is the right choice for you. With that in mind, here are some things to consider when answering the ultimate question: Mac or PC.

Reliability

If you’re going to spend a decent amount of money on any computer, you need to be sure that it’s one that’s going to be reliable. After all, in the modern world, more and more of our lives are spent on computers. Whether it’s work, gaming, keeping up with friends online, or working on personal projects, most of them require a computer. So if you end up in a position where your computer is crashing or breaking every twenty-five minutes, that’s going to be a major problem. Generally speaking, reliability is a little less of an issue for many Macs. Now, this is not to say that they don’t crash, but it’s not something that happens that often and things like this article can easily help you fix the issue. PCs have been previously known to crash more often but that’s an issue that’s getting a little less prevalent plus their inherent customizability makes big issues much easier to solve on your own.

Software

If there’s one thing that’s going to be the deciding factor for a lot of people over what kind of computer is right for them, it’s the available software that a particular platform has. One of the major selling points of a Mac is that, over the last decade and change, Apple has put a lot of money and effort into acquiring some amazing software. From music production programs like Logic Pro to a lot of things that come preinstalled with any Mac. There are some programs that are also available exclusively on PC as well. The key is to figure out what you need your computer for.

Cost

Money is always going to be a sticking point for a lot of people and that’s pretty understandable. After all, no matter how necessary it might be, you don’t want to end up in a position where you’re bankrupting yourself just to buy a computer. The harsh truth is that Macs are universally pretty expensive. This is partly down to quality but it’s hard to deny that it also involves the marketing and aesthetics involved in all Apple products. Standard PCs are often quite a bit cheaper but they have much more of a higher price ceiling as you get further and further into the truly high-end products.

Customizability

Macs are not really customizable. Taken them apart is generally frowned upon and if you want any alterations made, you’re probably going to have to go to an apple store. PCs, on the other hand, thrive on their customizability. People are often able to completely alter their PCs and many even build them entirely from scratch. This means that you can adjust your computer entirely based on your needs and preferences.

Of course, these are just some of the reasons that you might choose one over the other. These are the choices on this list because they’re likely to be the most important factors. However, you also need to think about things like aesthetics. That might seem like a tiny point but it’s something that’s worth considering. You also need to think about things like how much access do you have to support. After all, PCs will often have plenty of independent repair places as well as information on how to make repairs for yourself. However, a Mac requires you take it to an Apple store, which ensures that you’re going to be well taken care of but then accessibility and price become potential issues. Again, it’s all about balancing what it is that you do or do not need out of a computer.
