Back in 2009, Apple coined the phrase ‘There’s an app for that’. And, with a jam-packed App Store and a bulging Google Play shop, Apple’s slogan has certainly materialized.
Whether it’s checking our Facebook accounts during the commute to work, or enjoying a game of Angry Birds on the couch, rarely a day goes by when we don’t interact with apps. With hundreds of thousands of them available for our devices, apps really are changing how we live.
In this post, we will be looking at how apps have revolutionized different aspects of our lives, from e-commerce to office work.
E-commerce
Casting your mind back a few years, it’s scary to see how fast technology has developed. In the past, you had to visit a shop if you wanted to buy something. As the digital age dawned, we saw the development of online shopping, where users can order their goods via the internet from the comfort of their own home.
But now, we don’t even have to be at home! Mobile apps make it possible for us to order a pair of shoes while in the park, or pre-order the latest games console from the pub.
Many companies have decided to develop e-commerce apps to tie in with the increasing popularity of tablets and continued growth in smartphone users. Doing so makes it more convenient for user’s to purchase from the company and has a significant effect on sales for many. This goes to show how technology has helped in the e-commerce sector.

Office life
Not so long ago, our offices were made up of mountains of paper, files and notebooks accompanied by a rather large and bulky PC. As the size of our computers slimmed down, so did our reliance on paper, as we became more and more dependent on technology.
In recent years, there has been a surge in new apps that take some of the strain off office workers. For example, Paper by Fifty Three acts as a virtual notepad, minimizing the use of paper, while ToDoist can help you keep on top of your schedule by helping you create and manage a to-do list.

As well as these practical solutions, there are also specially designed apps that are specific to the running of a business. For example, a motor company may develop an app to help them keep on top of their service and MOT schedule.
Even though app stores are fit to burst, it can be beneficial for your business to develop their own application. This way, you can tailor the app to fit your needs perfectly, helping you to streamline essential tasks and procedures.

[ Smiles ] My favourite type of apps are the productivity apps.
Great article, Peter.
The best thing about these apps is that they have made our life very easy, they have provided us flexibility in doing our work at home or at any other place. Today we are seeing so much of revolution in the technology that we can find an app for any work we do. Every service provider is coming up with its app to provide better services to its customer. Their impact in our life is so vast that we can’t really imagine our life without them. anyways nice post peter, keep sharing.
Thank you Drakes. It is the industrial competition and our market demand that spurs these companies to work towards improving our lives!
I’ve got an insane schedule. Between school, work, and owning my own business , there are days where mobile apps are what keep me functioning. The mobile apps I find the most useful are the productivity apps. I don’t spend to much time with the games and “fun” apps, but I’ve got a few of those for when I need to unplug for awhile and relax. I’ve not heard of the Paper app you mentioned but I’m going to check it out. I’m not happy with the mobile app I’m using currently.
The different mobile apps are very big help to make our tasks faster and more organized. This is most helpful to me when it comes to organizing my schedules and storing my important files and be able to access time any time and anywhere.
