When you have just started your own business, it is very important that you begin to build an online presence as soon as possible, and this starts with your website. A good website will help get your company noticed by more people and it is often the first place they will visit when they want to find more information about your business. It is therefore imperative that you have a strong website and domain name in place alongside several strategies that you can use to make your website the best it can be.
1. Make your website easy to find
In order to ensure that people are able to find your website easily, you need to employ some Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques, which will make your site easy to find when someone carries out a relevant search online. If you are new to the world of online marketing, then you may not know where to get started with SEO. If this is the case, then you may find it easier to use a SEO company that can help you to optimize your site. There are also tools you can use yourself to get started such as Google Keywords.
2. Make your website attractive and easy to use
When people visit your site, you will want to do everything in your power to keep them there. Your website should look attractive, with text that is easy to read, and images that reinforce your message and help up to break up blocks of text. Your site should also be easy to navigate, because if people cannot find the information that they are looking for easily, they may give up with your site and decide to look elsewhere.
3. Give visitors a reason to keep coming back
In order to build a truly effective online presence, you will want to build a relationship with your customers. This can be achieved through your website by giving your customers a reason to keep coming back to your site, even if they do not want to make a purchase. You will find that many sites now have a blog on their site, which will contain information that benefits customers in some way. Things such as articles on how to get the most out of the products that your business sells are a great way to get started.
4. Track your progress
When you have used the techniques above to try and build a strong website, you will want to know whether these techniques are working, or if you should be trying something else instead. As well as tracking the number of visitors to your site overall, there are also a number of tools online that will allow you to track where your visitors come from. This can provide useful statistics that you can use to inform your marketing strategies, as you will know where the most effective places to advertise are.
Even if you are not operating your business online, without a website you could be losing out as the chances are that your competitors will have a website of their own. As more people are now using the internet on a daily basis than ever before, your website will also be an important source of information about your business for many people. Ensuring that you have a strong website is an essential tool for growing your business.

Hi Peter,
Terrific post! Thank for sharing this. More emphasis should be put on site design for every site, and not just fashion/photography (which usually have amazing sites). I’d add that the site should be social-friendly, easy to search, and with no (or 1) pop ups.
Pop ups are such annoyance. I wouldn’t even think of adding 1. You are right about site design, it’s something not only just for fashion/photography but any sites should try their best to make themselves stand out too. Thanks for the comment Amiti 🙂
